Knitting Classes

Great news! Starting this fall I will be teaching KNITTING CLASSES at Clay Wood and Cotton in Beacon, NY!

We are currently working on designing an very thorough 4-week Introduction to Knitting Class which will cover casting on, binding off, knit stitch, purl stitch, ribbing, basket-weave, and moss stitch, as well as introduce pattern reading, swatching, taking gauge, stitch/row counting, correcting errors, and finishing techniques.

We are hoping that later in the year we will also be able to offer weekend workshops on reading patterns and charts, circular knitting, cables, and color-work.

Follow us at Clay Wood and Cotton for more information!

In the Dye Studio

Naturally Hand-Dyed Organic Merino

While design projects are marinating, we've been busy working on a line of naturally hand-dyed yarns. We are currently working with two bases- Organic Merino, a 100% Certified Fine Organic Merino worsted weight, and a Bluefaced Leicester Sock yarn.

Both of these yarns, I just adore. The Organic Merino is soft and squishy and takes the dyes beautifully. It would be perfect for cushy sweaters, baby and children's clothes, and cold weather accessories.

Sample: One skein of Organic Merino dyed with Logwood

The BFL Sock is a 80% Superwash Bluefaced Leicester, 20% nylon made from superior British BFL wool.  It has a beautiful sheen and a nice high twist- a trifecta of beauty from the BFL, strength from the nylon, and definition from the twist.

We are still building a palate, so check back soon for updates! In the meantime, if you would like to know more about our natural dyeing process, you can read about it here.
